Dr. Ronnie Floyd will be Nominated for President of SBC by Johnny Hunt

This is a very interesting move by those in SBC power politics. I will give you my theory here and will try and get an interview with Dr. Floyd this week since he is in my backyard. I believe this is an attempt to appease some younger leaders, but maybe not those leaders in the same vein as in the Memphis Declaration. Dr. Floyd is innovative, he is a visionary, he has a staunch commitment to the preaching of truth. I promise you one thing, I will not disparage him here on this blog and I challenge all bloggers not to say something critical on their blogs without voicing your concerns to him face to face.

This is one of the concerns that I have about the blogging movement - many are quick to bash, as if it is doesn't matter to their witness. Everything, event dissent or concern must be done with a spirit of humility. I have to say that I am very dissapointed in many of the comments already being posted out there. Listen, I have to admit that the press release left much to be desired and its contents go to the heart of the issue at hand, but all of the sarcasm and cutting remarks just are not right.

We also must remember that Dr. Floyd is real person, a brother in Christ, a co-laborer for the gospel. Regardless of our opinions, he deserves what every fellow human being deserves, to be treated as we would want to be treated. The group that signed the Memphis declaration had a great experience and came away with a pretty good document - but that documents contents could be ruined by the content in our blogs.

It is also important to remember that the Memphis Declaration is not representative of the vast majority of the convention and if we are truly about a spirit of cooperation, maybe we need to be at a position to sit and have influence at the table when given the opportunity. I believe that Dr. Floyd is the kind of leader that will give younger pastors a voice in the convention.

I hope that I will have the opportunity to interview him this week- to see what he has to say to younger leaders who have many concerns about the direction of the convention.

ARB - just for the record - I did not think you were bashing - but I have read a flood of blogs that turned my stomach with the tone.
