We feel that Paige Patterson's statement on Dr. McKissic's chapel sermon is alarming. He has either forgotten his place or forsaken his responsibility.

He has either presumed upon the role of trustees to censor another trustee, or he was negligent in not properly vetting his chapel speakers (or his trustees). Patterson's arrogance has reached a new high, or should we say low.

His decision to censor a trustee's sermon because he has deemed that it could be potentially harmful to SBC churches should not go unpunished. We call on the Southwestern trustees to take the official action of censuring Patterson for his careless insubordination.

Nevermind the fact that Southwestern cannot seem to pull out of a three year decline to unprecedented enrollment lows. It is hard to see how Patterson's blunder can do anything but further minimize the ability of SWBTS to recruit the kind of students that seem to be choosing other institutions for a solid theological education.

I am calling on the trustees to censor the trustee for speaking on a subject he knew was controversial.

If people don't like how Patterson running the seminary get rid of him, but for now its not censorship.

    It's call leadership.

Perhaps a better understanding of censorship.

This coming from a group who will not makes themselves known to people.

    Jeff,

I don't want to get into a real personal thing here, but I'm sorry...censor the trustee for speaking about a controversial subject? That really doesn't fly. the Bible is the most controversial book in history. If McKissic spoke on something that was blatanly anti-Scriptural, it might be one thing, but I think Patterson only made the issue more controversial here by censoring the content of the sermon. McKissic was most humble and gracious in his response and Patterson could learn something from him, as could we all.

We should all remember the words of Joyce Rogers in Greensboro admonishing against a "narrower" standard that is divisive.

The wise Dr. Ed Young also exhorted against venturing onto "sidestreets" that distract us from the path we should be on.

This should be a non-controversy, but unfortunately it has become one.

Do you think the picture of Dr. Patterson is God-honoring?

    Jeff,

The picture is an inverse negative of a photo. I'm sorry if you are offended by it. I didn't create this one. I didn't put it up. We've had discussions among us before about photos and photoshops. I probably wouldn't have used it, but I am a contributor here (less frequently in recent weeks), not the editor. That's all I'm going to say about it.
