    Messenger Count?

With May business meetings coming up soon, churches across our convention will be electing messengers for Greensboro. In recent years, my church (a larger one by convention standards) has only sent two messengers, but this year we should have all 10 spots filled.

It would be nice to gauge both the number and the attitudes of the messengers who will be attending the annual meeting. Does anyone know if any of the usual suspects have sent (or are sending) out any letters or are making phone calls, actively seeking to turn out full messenger allotments from friendly or somewhat friendly churches?

If anyone knows about any such activity, let the rest of us know. It would be nice to have some expectations related to how things may shake out in Greensboro.

    Another Modern Day Spurgeon

Wade Burleson is high profile these days, but I would encourage you to listen to this message (a fellow Arky sent it to me today) entitled People, Problems and the Pastor . This gets back to the heart of what it means to be a shepherd in a church.
    People, Problems and the Pastor
    Philippians 4:1-3
    By: Wade Burleson |
Often you hear church people say "Let's get back to being the New Testament church" implying that if we were just like the church in the old days, there would be no problems. However, Paul dealt with problems in all the early churches including here in Philippi where two women, Euodias and Synteche, were arguing with each other. In this passage we see that churches of all kinds will have problems, and the appropriate way for churches and preachers to resolve them.

If you haven't listened to any of Mark Dever's messages, take a listen. This is his most recent sermon.

    Power & Weakness
    By: Mark Dever | 4/16/2006
The apostle Paul's ministry was under attack by what he called the "super apostles." These "super apostles" were known for boasting about themselves. Paul responds to this challenge by doing some boasting of his own. But instead of boasting in his strengths, Paul boasts in his weaknesses so that Christ may be seen as powerful and sufficient.

    The Right Discussion
Reaching Today's World Through Differing Views of Election:

Paige Patterson, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

Al Mohler, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

I, for one, am looking forward to this discussion taking place at the Pastors' Conference. I suspect this session will be well attended. Who else plans on attending?

Who are the Southern Baptist Convention's Top Shepherds?
We hear a lot about the convention's top preachers (CEOs) and their large megachurches. I would like to know who you think are the convention's best shepherds of men and women?

(For those of you who don't recongnize the people in the picture, those are Drs. Shepherd from ABC's Grey's Anatomy. It comes on after church on Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. CST.)

Another SBC focused blog -- I know that is what we need.

As a layman, I hope I can bring a different perspective. For mine is the heart of a once quiet, passive pew sitter who has since been fired up for spreading the good news about the life transforming power of a relationship with Jesus Christ: Sola Gratia, Solo Christo, Sola Fide, Sola Dei Gloria, Sola Scriptura, Sola Cruce, Solo Evangelio!
